Winter Trends 2014

Assallam to one and all.

Hey sweeties! sure you are all prepared for our beautiful and scared month of Ramadhan. Insha allah May the almighty grant you all that is required to fulfill and complete the Holy Month. Insha Allah

My look post today is all about winter trends 2014. I did this article for Gaya Magazine, May issue 2014. However  I tweaked the article by adding pics from various international designers. Enjoy!

In a word, winter is bleak. When we think of winter, we are automatically  drawn to dark, harsh colours like that of black and grey. However, if you want to return to pastel this season, you have a freedom the freedom to do so as this is your time to shine. Embracing softer tones like that of blue's  and pink's or even floral, even though spring seems furthest away.

The sophisticated blue has definitely got our attention this season.... 'Navy is the new black'. .  Not forgetting pops of red, teals and greens and the monochromatic black and white which made a huge statement not only this season but in summer too.

A furry statement is definitely the right choice and a go to trend. As long as it's fake. With so many faux fur alternatives around, you're spoiled for choice. Fur has always been a staple for winter. However this year, fur flourishes as accents and details on everything from coats to cowls, clutches to belts, and shoes to boots.

As we know, the key to winter fashion is all about layering. Looking chic this season has a major emphasis on layers. Skirts and dresses layered over pants as well as turtlenecks been layered under dresses, sweaters and buttoned up shirts and tops still allowing you to look effortlessly stylish.

How perfectly appropriate to us Muslimahs, over-sized blouses and sweaters, coats and pants similarly known as the bohemian (harem), boyfriend style knit pant and jogging pant, gained much popularity as they  are so on point this season. The bohemian pant paired with the right pair of shoes and accessories transforms  classic silhouettes into a powerful statement. If you're feeling frumpy in an over-sized coat, throw on a belt to define your waist. P.S. The secret is to balance your jewels and accessories and not to be weighed down by them!  For me, less is more. Add pops of colour. If your outfit is plain (black and white, black and grey, etc.), create a pop of colour with jewelry, a scarf, a handbag, or a bright pair of shoes.

In terms of print this season, specifically animal print, has been modernized by simple silhouettes paired with tailored items. If there is a print that stands out this season in particular  then its Tartan paired with leather, studded boots. Giving it that punk feel. Personally I'm completely in love with polka dots and stripes. I wear what makes me happy....

Last but not least I believe that there's something about the right pair of pants or that fabulous pair of shoes that can bring out a confidence in you that you didn't realize you had. Despite how much fashion deals with the surface, it's the effect that it has on the way you feel as opposed to the
way you look that makes it so amazing...to me at least.

Ramadhan Kareem to all.

Until next time Stay blessed!

Lotsa lof loves
